A shallow magnitude 2.6 earthquake was reported around noon near Ouarzazate, Ouarzazate Province, Draa-Tafilalet, Morocco.
According to the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, IPMA), the quake hit on Monday, October 6th, 2025, at 1:18 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 2.6 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Ouarzazate (pop. 77,600, 40 km away), Tabount (pop. 33,900, 41 km away), Demnate (pop. 32,200, 55 km away), and Setti Fatma (pop. 22,300, 58 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
