A magnitude 5.4 earthquake near San Fernando, La Union, Ilocos, Philippines, was reported only 11 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter early morning on Friday, September 19th, 2025, at 3:52 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, which listed it as a magnitude 5.8 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 5.3, and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 5.3.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in San Fernando (pop. 83,000) located 19 km from the epicenter.
In Bauang (pop. 17,100) located 28 km from the epicenter, Tagudin (pop. 35,800) 31 km away, Santa Maria (pop. 28,000) 32 km away, and Aringay (pop. 29,800) 43 km away, the
