An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 occurred only 25 minutes ago 25 km northwest of Novi Pazar, Serbia, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 3. km beneath the epicenter near Novi Pazar, Raška, Central Serbia, Serbia, early afternoon on Friday, September 5th, 2025, at 2:43 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Seismological Survey of Serbia (SSS) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.2. Other agencies reporting the same quake include The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 3.6, and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 4.2.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Sokolovica (pop. 1000) located 9 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Novi Pazar (pop. 86,000) located 25 km from the epicenter.
