An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 occurred only 15 minutes ago 32 km southeast of Rasht, Tajikistan, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Rasht, Districts of Republican Subordination, Tajikistan, in the morning on Sunday, April 13th, 2025, at 9:24 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Rasht (pop. 10,800) located 32 km from the epicenter.
In Novobod (pop. 5,400) located 50 km from the epicenter, Roghun (pop. 7,700) 74 km away, and Obigarm (pop. 7,400) 89 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
