An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred only 4 minutes ago 39 km northeast of Oia, Greece, The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) reported.
The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 32.69 km beneath the epicenter near Oia, Kykládes, South Aegean, Greece, early morning on Sunday, September 28th, 2025, at 3:08 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Arkesini (pop. 110) located 18 km from the epicenter, Fira (pop. 2,400) 37 km away, Messaria (pop. 1,200) 38 km away, Oia (pop. 3,400) 39 km away, Emporeio (pop. 1,900) 41 km away, Ios (pop. 2,000) 44 km away, Naxos (pop. 7,100) 64 km away, and Paros (pop. 5,300) 74 km away.
