Just 5 minutes ago, a 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Nikolski, Aleutians West, Alaska, USA. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025, at 11:57 am local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 21 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Nikolski (pop. 18) located 60 miles from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.

The alert level at Etna remained at “Yellow” (level 2 on a 4-level scale). The aviation alert level was lowered to “Green” (level 1 on a 4-level scale).
