Just 17 minutes ago, a 2.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Merano, South Tyrol, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025, at 10:01 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 7.30 km below the surface.
The event was filed by Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 2.3 earthquake as well. A third agency, the Swiss Seismological Service (SED), reported the same quake at magnitude 2.9.
