Svartsengi (Reykjanes peninsula, SW Iceland): The Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO) reported that unrest continued at Reykjanes between 19 November 2025 (local) and 26 November 2025 (local). The alert level remained at “2 – Heightened volcanic unrest” (level 2 on a 0-3 level scale). The aviation alert level remained at “Yellow” (level 2 on a 4-level scale).

Shiveluch (Kamchatka): Explosive activity continues. Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Tokyo warned about a volcanic ash plume that rose up to estimated 22000 ft (6700 m) altitude or flight level 220 and is moving at 20 kts in E direction.

SALINAS, CA; Prunedale, CA 93907 Oak Hills – Hwy 1 (20 km W of epicenter) [Map] / Light shaking (MMI IV) / both vertical and horizontal swinging / 2-5 s : Sitting on couch … big bang & thunk like something hit the house – whole house shook followed by rumble & rolling like rollers under the house moving/shaking the house side to side, could feel rollers under my feet.  

Mountain View, California (80.8 km NW of epicenter) [Map] / Weak shaking (MMI III) : I was sitting on the couch and felt my couch sway for 6 seconds. During this, objects in my house and paintings started creaking. My pet birds could feel it as well and gave me a deep concerned look.  

San José, CA (58.8 km NNW of epicenter) [Map] / Very weak shaking (MMI II) / horizontal (sideways) swinging / 2-5 s : I was sitting in my couch on my room and suddenly moved for like five or seven seconds, the train didn’t pass because I often hear the train passing the the room moves but this time

Just 2 minutes ago, a 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Salinas, Monterey County, California, USA. The tremor was recorded around noon on Thursday, November 27th, 2025, at 12:48 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 5.6 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in San Juan Bautista (pop. 2,000) located 4 miles from the epicenter, Prunedale (pop. 17,600) 7 miles away, Hollister (pop. 37,500) 9 miles away, Salinas (pop. 157,400) 10 miles away, Watsonville (pop. 53,600) 15 miles away, Gilroy (pop. 53,200) 15 miles away, and Marina (pop. 21,200) 16 miles away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Seaside (pop. 33,000) located 21 miles from the epicenter, and San Jose (pop. 997,400) 43 miles away.
