An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred 34 minutes ago 33 miles northeast of Valmy, Nevada, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 0.9 miles beneath the epicenter near Valmy, Humboldt County, Nevada, USA, in the morning on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025, at 7:14 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.7 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.7.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Valmy (pop. 37) located 33 miles from the epicenter, and Battle Mountain (pop. 3,600) 39 miles away. In Carlin (pop. 2,300, 49 miles away), and Winnemucca (pop. 7,900, 52 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
