An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 occurred early morning on Monday, September 15th, 2025, at 5:16 am local time near Les Abymes, Guadeloupe, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 48. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Anse-Bertrand (pop. 5,100) located 27 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Les Abymes (pop. 53,500) located 49 km from the epicenter, Baie-Mahault (pop. 30,800) 52 km away, St John’s (pop. 24,200) 66 km away, and Basse-Terre (pop. 11,500) 86 km away.
