An earthquake of magnitude 3.8 occurred late at night on Friday, May 16th, 2025, at 10:54 pm local time near Mesquite, Clark County, Nevada, USA, as reported by the United States Geological Survey.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 5.4 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.8 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.8.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Bunkerville (pop. 1,300) located 20 miles from the epicenter, Mesquite (pop. 17,500) 22 miles away, Moapa Valley (pop. 6,900) 23 miles away, and St. George (pop. 72,900) 50 miles away. In Boulder City (pop. 15,600, 56 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.

If you felt it, report it through our site or app right now!
