An earthquake of magnitude 3.1 occurred only 30 minutes ago 6 km northwest of Katowice, Poland, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 8. km beneath the epicenter near Katowice, Silesian Voivodeship, Poland, in the morning on Thursday, December 18th, 2025, at 10:30 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Swietochlowice (pop. 55,600) located 3 km from the epicenter, and Chorzow (pop. 113,400) 4 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Katowice (pop. 317,300) located 6 km from the epicenter, Ruda Slaska (pop. 146,200) 6 km away, Bytom (pop. 189,200) 8 km away, Siemianowice Slaskie (pop. 73,100) 9 km away, Sosnowiec (pop. 227,300) 12 km away, Zabrze (pop. 192,200) 12 km away, and Tychy (pop. 130,000) 15 km away.

An earthquake of magnitude 3.8 occurred only 22 minutes ago 26 km northwest of Tbilisi, Georgia, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Tbilisi, K’alak’i T’bilisi, Georgia, around noon on Thursday, December 18th, 2025, at 1:26 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.8 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Dzegvi (pop. 2,900) located 2 km from the epicenter, Mtskheta (pop. 7,400) 9 km away, Zahesi (pop. 1,900) 12 km away, Kaspi (pop. 12,300) 17 km away, and Tsqnet’i (pop. 7,200) 20 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Dusheti (pop. 7,400) located 25 km from the epicenter, Tbilisi (pop. 1,049,500) 26 km
