A magnitude 4.6 earthquake near Bislig, Surigao del Sur, Caraga, Philippines, was reported only 8 minutes ago by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter late at night on Thursday, September 18th, 2025, at 11:25 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Santa Maria (pop. 2,400) located 50 km from the epicenter, Taytayan (pop. 6,900) 52 km away, Baganga (pop. 10,100) 60 km away, and Bislig (pop. 67,600) 69 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Trento (pop. 15,900) located 92 km from the epicenter, Manay (pop. 20,300) 95 km away, Monkayo (pop. 51,400) 95 km away, and Compostela (pop. 42,600) 96 km away.
