An intermediate magnitude 4.9 earthquake was reported in the morning near Tandag, Surigao del Sur, Caraga, Philippines.
According to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the quake hit on Saturday, October 4th, 2025, at 7:02 am local time at an intermediate depth of 98. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Burgos (pop. 3,500) located 27 km from the epicenter, Tandag (pop. 29,000) 30 km away, Tago (pop. 6,300) 31 km away, and Aras-asan (pop. 5,100) 39 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Bah-Bah (pop. 28,600) located 89 km from the epicenter, Bayugan (pop. 40,600) 89 km away, San Francisco (pop. 18,500) 93 km away, Cabadbaran (pop. 31,100) 99 km away, and Butuan (pop. 309,700) 102 km away.
