A magnitude 4.7 earthquake near Ancona, Province of Ancona, The Marches, Italy, was reported only 4 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter around noon on Monday, October 6th, 2025, at 12:13 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Ponte Sasso (pop. 6,100) located 26 km from the epicenter, Senigallia (pop. 30,900) 28 km away, Fano (pop. 61,000) 29 km away, Pesaro (pop. 77,200) 34 km away, Falconara Marittima (pop. 25,900) 37 km away, Ancona (pop. 90,000) 42 km away, Jesi (pop. 37,000) 49 km away, Rimini (pop. 148,700) 63 km away, and San Marino (pop. 4,500) 71 km away.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available.

Fine fuels remain very dry across the St. Lawrence Valley according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. This, combined with low relative humidity values of 30 to 35 percent and gusty southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph may have an impact on fire weather conditions. If any fires were to start, the weather and fuel conditions could cause fires to spread quickly and be difficult to contain. For more information about the current fire danger rating, any burn restrictions, and wildfire prevention and education, please visit the New York State forestry or environmental protection website.
