India’s National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported a magnitude 3.3 quake in India near Rohtak, Haryana, only 19 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Sunday, December 21st, 2025, at 11:43 am local time at a very shallow depth of 5. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.3 as well. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 3.3.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Sampla (pop. 20,600) located 4 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Rohtak (pop. 374,300) located 19 km from the epicenter, Jhajjar (pop. 48,400) 21 km away, Kharkhauda (pop. 25,100) 21 km away, Bahadurgarh (pop. 170,800) 22 km away, Najafgarh (pop. 1,365,000) 31
