Since the last update in February, the temperature at Te Wai ā-moe (Ruapehu Crater Lake) has remained steady around 20 °C but has recently begun a gradual decline to 17 °C.
Heat flux modeling indicates a consistent heat input of approximately 50 megawatts. For comparison, typical heat input values range from about 30 MW during cooler periods to more than 300–400 MW when the lake is significantly warmer (above 35 °C).
Sulfur dioxide (SO₂) emissions, as recorded by continuous gas detectors, remain steady at low levels—around 100 to 150 tonnes per day. These levels are consistent with background activity at Mount Ruapehu, with a modest supply of volcanic gas from depth contributing to the lake’s warmth.
Although the lake has not reached the higher temperatures usually seen during a heating phase, the continued flow of gas through the lake indicates that the vents remain
