Just 5 minutes ago, a 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Homer, Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, USA. The tremor was recorded around noon on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, at 12:22 pm local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 23 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), which listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.6.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Fox River (pop. 690) located 6 miles from the epicenter, Fritz Creek (pop. 1,900) 15 miles away, Diamond Ridge (pop. 1,200) 25 miles away, and Homer (pop. 5,500) 25 miles away. In Anchor Point (pop. 1,900, 33 miles away), Cohoe (pop. 1,400, 43 miles away), Kalifornsky (pop. 7,900, 46 miles away), and Kenai (pop. 7,700, 55 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
