A magnitude 4.7 earthquake near Pátrai, Achaea, West Greece, Greece, was reported only 12 minutes ago by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Greece. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 5. km beneath the epicenter late at night on Saturday, December 6th, 2025, at 10:48 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.7 earthquake as well. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 4.9, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 4.8, The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 4.6, The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) at magnitude 4.7, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 4.8.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.

Shiveluch (Kamchatka): Explosive activity continues. Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Tokyo warned about a volcanic ash plume that rose up to estimated 12000 ft (3700 m) altitude or flight level 120 and is moving at 20 kts in N direction.

Sakurajima (Kyushu, Japan): (6 Dec) Explosive activity continues. Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Tokyo warned about a volcanic ash plume that rose up to estimated 9000 ft (2700 m) altitude or flight level 090 and is moving at 15 kts in E direction.

A very shallow magnitude 5.3 earthquake was reported in the morning near Yakutat, Yakutat City and, Alaska, USA.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake hit on Saturday, December 6th, 2025, at 11:51 am local time at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.3 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Yakutat (pop. 660) located 54 miles from the epicenter.
