Tue, 9 Sep 2025, 23:40 | BY: EARTHQUAKEMONITOR

A very shallow magnitude 3.7 earthquake was reported early evening near Pecos, Reeves County, Texas, USA.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake hit on Tuesday, September 9th, 2025, at 6:21 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 3.8 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.9.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Mentone (pop. 19) located 25 miles from the epicenter, and Pecos (pop. 9,500) 34 miles away. In Wink (pop. 1,100, 51 miles away), Carlsbad (pop. 29,000, 56 miles away), and Kermit (pop. 6,400, 56 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.

If you felt it, report it through our site or app right now!
