The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.7 quake in the United States near Pāhala, Hawaii County, Hawaii, only 7 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the evening on Thursday, October 2nd, 2025, at 8:28 pm local time at a shallow depth of 18 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.0.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Pāhala (pop. 1,400) located 2 miles from the epicenter, Discovery Harbor (pop. 1,200) 13 miles away, Hawaiian Ocean View (pop. 4,400) 20 miles away, Volcano (pop. 2,600) 25 miles away, Honaunau-Napoopoo (pop. 2,600) 32 miles away, Mountain View (pop. 3,900) 36 miles away, and Captain Cook (pop. 3,400) 36 miles away. In Holualoa (pop. 8,500, 43 miles away), and Hilo (pop. 43,300, 46 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
