MIT researchers found that metals retain hidden atomic patterns once believed to vanish during manufacturing. These patterns arise from microscopic dislocations that guide atoms into preferred arrangements instead of random ones. The discovery introduces a new kind of physics in metals and suggests engineers can exploit these patterns to enhance material performance in demanding environments.

The Engineering Department at Drury University is searching for adventurous spirits to join a small team building new mechanical and electrical engineering programs.  Drury University is a small undergraduate-focused liberal arts school in Springfield, Missouri that welcomed its first engineering students in Fall 2024.

We are seeking faculty with a passion for teaching undergraduates and a willingness to teach a variety of undergraduate electrical engineering topics.  While candidates from any electrical engineering discipline are welcome to apply, preference will be given to those who have a background in and enthusiasm for teaching analog electronics, including teaching relevant software design tools and introductory PCB layout.  Preference will also be given to candidates whose interest areas complement existing faculty strengths in signals and systems, controls, and numerical methods.

Requirements include doctorate and baccalaureate degrees in electrical engineering or a closely related field. (Doctorate must be complete

In-brief analysis

October 14, 2025

Data source: U.S. Energy Information Administration, Short-Term Energy Outlook, October 2025
Note: Export capacity includes total flexport capacity, which includes other hydrocarbon gas liquid export capacity.

U.S. ethane exports are poised for significant growth through 2026, driven by robust global demand for ethane as a petrochemical feedstock, substantial U.S. export capacity expansions, and larger vessels to carry ethane exports. In our October Short-Term Energy Outlook, we forecast U.S. ethane net exports will grow 14% in 2025, followed by a 16% rise in 2026. The United States does not import ethane.

Ethane, a natural gas liquid primarily extracted from raw natural gas during processing, is a critical component in the petrochemical sector. It’s mainly used as a feedstock to produce ethylene, which is used to make a wide range of products including

Full Proposal Deadline(s) (due by 5 p.m. submitting organization’s local time):

Proposals Accepted Anytime

Submission deadlines vary by program and proposals must meet program-specific requirements to be considered for review. For calendar year 2025, proposals are accepted after September 1, 2025. PIs should contact cognizant program officers for guidance.

Important Information And Revision Notes

The eligibility and submission requirements are the same as the previous version of this solicitation, with the exception that the request for the Expression of Interest (EOI) has been removed and the submission deadlines now follow individual participating programs’ funding opportunity instructions. Additionally, the focus has changed from measurements of interfacial systems at scale with in-situ and operando analysis to any research topic
