The citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake reported a magnitude 4.5 quake in Costa Rica near Golfito, Provincia de Puntarenas, 31 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Saturday, December 20th, 2025, at 6:43 am local time at a shallow depth of 15. km. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Puerto Cortes (pop. 3,900) located 64 km from the epicenter, Golfito (pop. 6,800) 69 km away, Corredor (pop. 7,100) 88 km away, San Vito (pop. 4,000) 93 km away, Buenos Aires (pop. 11,700) 94 km away, Mercedes (pop. 5,500) 97 km away, Canoas (pop. 4,600) 97 km away, and San Isidro (pop. 34,900) 106 km away.
