Just 12 minutes ago, a 2.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Ohrid, North Macedonia. The tremor was recorded late at night on Monday, December 29th, 2025, at 10:06 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Seismological Survey of Serbia (SSS) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.9. Other agencies reporting the same quake include The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 2.6, The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) at magnitude 2.7, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 2.8.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Golemo Ilino (pop. 210) located 5 km from the epicenter, and Belcista (pop. 2,800) 12 km away. In Demir Hisar (pop. 2,300, 20 km away), Resen (pop. 16,500, 21 km away), Ohrid (pop. 42,000, 23 km away), Plasnica (pop. 4,600, 25 km away), Krusevo (pop. 5,200, 25 km away), Kicevo (pop. 31,100, 26 km away), Struga (pop. 37,400, 27 km away), and Prilep (pop. 73,800, 49 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
