FFWPSR The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for… Gila County in east central Arizona… * Until 700 PM MST. * At 304 PM MST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain primarily in Gilson Wash, as well as Seven Mile Wash. Up to 1 inch of rain has fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Popocatépetl Volcano Volcanic Ash Advisory: VA NOT OBS

Background:

Volcán Popocatépetl, whose name is the Aztec word for smoking mountain, towers to 5426 m 70 km SE of Mexico City to form North America’s 2nd-highest volcano.  The glacier-clad stratovolcano contains a steep-walled, 250-450 m deep crater.  The generally symmetrical volcano is modified by the sharp-peaked Ventorrillo on the NW, a remnant of an earlier volcano. 
At least three previous major cones were destroyed by gravitational failure during the Pleistocene, producing massive debris-avalanche deposits covering broad areas south of the volcano.  The modern volcano was constructed to the south of the late-Pleistocene to Holocene El Fraile cone.  Three major plinian eruptions, the most recent of which took place about 800 AD, have occurred from Popocatépetl since the mid Holocene, accompanied by pyroclastic flows and voluminous lahars that swept basins below the volcano.  Frequent historical eruptions, first recorded in Aztec codices, have occurred since precolumbian

Klyuchevskoy (Kamchatka): Explosive activity continues. Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Tokyo warned about a volcanic ash plume that rose up to estimated 23000 ft (7000 m) altitude or flight level 230 and is moving at 15 kts in E direction.

* WHAT…Up to one foot of inundation above ground level in low- lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. * WHERE…New Kent, Gloucester, Middlesex, Mathews, Eastern King William and Eastern King and Queen Counties. * WHEN…Until 10 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS…Shallow flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline resulting in a low threat of property damage. Expect up to one foot of water above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks and lawns near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.
