Just 7 minutes ago, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Susanville, Lassen County, California, USA. The tremor was recorded in the afternoon on Sunday, December 28th, 2025, at 4:41 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Litchfield (pop. 200) located 15 miles from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Johnstonville (pop. 1000) located 20 miles from the epicenter, Susanville (pop. 15,200) 21 miles away, Janesville (pop. 1,400) 23 miles away, and Westwood (pop. 1,600) 41 miles away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include East Quincy (pop. 2,500) located 54 miles from the epicenter.

Susanville, CA (20.3 km SSE of epicenter) [Map] / Moderate shaking (MMI V) / both vertical and horizontal swinging / 5-10 s : In the middle of a going away party inside a garden nursery/barn. Can see the floors and rafters shifting. | 2 users found this interesting.  

Susanville, Lassen, California (14.3 km SSE of epicenter) [Map] / Moderate shaking (MMI V) / vibration and rolling / 5-10 s : Light rumbling at first, then sudden aggressive shaking. Lasted at least 5 seconds. Objects fell off of shelves, some things flew a few feet. Cats extremely scared. Could visibly see that the furniture/house was swaying/rolling. Slight difficulty to move to safety. | One user found this interesting.
