An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 occurred 31 minutes ago 41 km southwest of Al Hoceima, Morocco, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 0.50 km beneath the epicenter near Al Hoceima, Al-Hoceima, Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Morocco, early morning on Saturday, April 12th, 2025, at 6:29 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Targuist (pop. 14,600) located 15 km from the epicenter.
In Bni Bouayach (pop. 20,000) located 34 km from the epicenter, Imzouren (pop. 40,000) 36 km away, Tirhanimine (pop. 55,800) 38 km away, and Al Hoceima (pop. 395,600) 41 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Taounate (pop. 41,100) located 63 km from the epicenter, Taza (pop. 162,100) 81 km away, and Fes (pop. 1,191,900) 127 km away.
