An earthquake of magnitude 3.0 occurred only 9 minutes ago 4 miles northeast of Moreno Valley, California, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 9 miles beneath the epicenter near Moreno Valley, Riverside County, California, USA, early morning on Wednesday, August 6th, 2025, at 1:03 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.3 earthquake. A third agency, The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.5.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Redlands (pop. 71,000) located 4 miles from the epicenter, Moreno Valley (pop. 204,200) 4 miles away, Yucaipa (pop. 53,300) 9 miles away, Colton (pop. 54,600) 9 miles away, Highland (pop. 54,900) 9 miles away, San Bernardino (pop. 216,100) 10 miles away, Riverside (pop. 322,400) 12 miles away, and Rialto (pop. 103,100) 13 miles away. In Fontana (pop. 212,700, 16 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.

Strong wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph are expected this morning across western Minnesota. We have observed sporadic wind gusts up to 55 mph shortly after precipitation ended across W MN. These wind gusts appear to be associated with a wake low pressure behind the line of thunderstorms. Winds gusts may cause damage to trees and vegetation.
