Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported a magnitude 4.9 quake in Indonesia near Sungai Penuh, Kota Sungai Penuh, Jambi, only 9 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early evening on Friday, October 3rd, 2025, at 6:03 pm local time at a shallow depth of 18. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.9 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Sungai Penuh (pop. 99,200) located 119 km from the epicenter.
