An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred in the evening on Friday, August 29th, 2025, at 9:02 pm local time near Cilacap, Cilacap Regency, Provinsi Jawa Tengah, Indonesia, as reported by Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 56. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Cilacap (pop. 257,000) located 98 km from the epicenter, and Wangon (pop. 35,500) 122 km away.
