Across the Piedmont of North Carolina, dead brush and leaf litter have become very dry in recent days due to breezy conditions and low relative humidity. These conditions are forecast once again on Tuesday. Relative humidity will fall below 35 percent for most of the afternoon and wind gusts will reach 20 mph at times. Given the dry vegetation, fires will be able to grow quickly and the danger of wildfires will be elevated. Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn Tuesday. If you do burn, use extreme caution since fires can quickly get out of hand under these conditions.
