An earthquake of magnitude 3.0 occurred late at night on Wednesday, December 24th, 2025, at 11:43 pm local time near Meknes, Meknès Prefecture, Fes-Meknes, Morocco, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Douar Toulal (pop. 20,800) located 3 km from the epicenter, Meknes (pop. 568,300) 5 km away, Ouislane (pop. 96,000) 10 km away, and Sabaa Aiyoun (pop. 28,700) 21 km away. In El Hajeb (pop. 38,500, 33 km away), Sidi Kacem (pop. 82,600, 35 km away), Khemisset (pop. 143,600, 44 km away), Sidi Slimane (pop. 101,500, 49 km away), and Fes (pop. 1,191,900, 57 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
