The Department of Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Engineering, beginning September 1, 2026.

We seek dynamic and innovative candidates with a strong research record in quantum information science and engineering (QISE) who can build and sustain a nationally recognized, externally funded applied research program. While applications over a wide range of specialties in QISE are encouraged, the successful candidate will enhance or strategically complement ongoing efforts within the Engineering department, Department of Physics, and Data & Quantum Science Center at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Preference will be given to applications focusing on work in the areas of superconducting quantum computing, quantum information processing, quantum electronic devices and systems, quantum sensing, quantum control, quantum materials, atomic and molecular quantum systems, and quantum nano- and optomechanics.

In late 2023, a long-trusted virtualization staple became the biggest open question on the enterprise IT roadmap.

Amid concerns of VMware licensing changes and steeper support costs, analysts noticed an exodus mentality. Forrester predicted that one in five large VMware customers would begin moving away from the platform in 2024. A subsequent Gartner community poll found that 74% of respondents were rethinking their VMware relationship in light of recent changes. CIOs contending with pricing hikes and product roadmap opacity face a daunting choice: double‑down on a familiar but costlier stack, or use the disruption to rethink how—and where—critical workloads should run.
