Just 13 minutes ago, a 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Akbou, Daïra d’Akbou, Wilaya de Bejaia, Algeria. The tremor was recorded early morning on Wednesday, October 8th, 2025, at 5:55 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.9. A third agency, Spain’s Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.9.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Akbou (pop. 38,300) located 10 km from the epicenter, Seddouk (pop. 19,900) 12 km away, Ighram (pop. 15,000) 12 km away, Chemini (pop. 21,600) 18 km away, Feraoun (pop. 21,700) 23 km away, and el hed (pop. 31,900) 26 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Barbacha (pop. 32,000) located 32 km from the epicenter, and Bejaia (pop. 176,100) 53 km away.

If you felt it, report it through our site or app
