A magnitude 4.4 earthquake near Pozzuoli, Naples, Campania, Italy, was reported only 16 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 2.60 km beneath the epicenter around noon on Tuesday, May 13th, 2025, at 12:07 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Pozzuoli (pop. 81,200) located 3 km from the epicenter, Bacoli (pop. 25,600) 4 km away, and Bacoli (pop. 25,600) 4 km away.
In Pianura (pop. 57,800) located 6 km from the epicenter, Quarto (pop. 37,700) 7 km away, Soccavo (pop. 45,300) 7 km away, Fuorigrotta (pop. 76,500) 7 km away, Naples (pop. 909,000) 14 km away, and Giugliano in Campania (pop. 80,300) 14 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.

At 619 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking gusty showers near Lewiston Woodville, or 15 miles northwest of Williamston, moving north at 20 mph. HAZARD…Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE…Radar indicated. IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. This storm will remain over mainly rural areas of east central Halifax County.
