Researchers have developed a revolutionary microscope that uses an incredibly powerful laser to make previously invisible cellular structures easier to see. The technology dramatically improves image clarity, allowing scientists to examine small proteins that conventional electron microscopes struggle to capture. It could eventually reveal how tiny molecular machines interact inside cells, providing an unprecedented look at the hidden workings of life.

An intermediate-magnitude 5.1 earthquake was reported in the afternoon near Bengkulu, Kota Bengkulu, Indonesia.
According to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the quake struck on Thursday, October 22nd, 2026, at 5:57 pm local time, at an intermediate depth of 109. km. The earthquake’s strength may have been tempered by its relatively great depth below the surface, making it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Curup (pop. 46,200), located 59 km from the epicenter; Bengkulu (pop. 373,600), 81 km away; and Lubuklinggau (pop. 234,200), 81 km away.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update the magnitude and depth if they change and follow up if other significant news about the quake becomes available.
