Dr. Hua Yu, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Tyler, is seeking a motivated and qualified graduate student for one partially funded Graduate Teaching and Research Assistant (GTA/GRA) position (MS in Civil Engineering) starting as early as Spring or Fall 2026.

Position Overview:

The selected candidate will assist in teaching and research activities related to soil mechanics (especially unsaturated soil mechanics), cementitious and construction materials, and geotechnical laboratory testing. This position is ideal for students interested in pursuing advanced studies in geotechnical engineering with a strong focus on experimental and sustainable infrastructure research.

Responsibilities:

Support teaching activities in undergraduate geotechnical or construction materials courses. Conduct laboratory experiments on soils and cement-based materials. Assist with ongoing research projects in unsaturated soil mechanics and sustainable construction materials. Prepare technical reports, analyze data, and contribute to academic publications. WASHINGTON — FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance is available to the state of Indiana to supplement recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding from March 30 – April 9, 2025.

Public Assistance federal funding is available to the state, tribal and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair and replacement of facilities damaged by the severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding in Bartholomew, Brown, Clark, Crawford, Decatur, Floyd, Franklin, Greene, Harrison, Jefferson, Lawrence, Madison, Marshall, Martin, Montgomery, Morgan, Orange, Owen, Perry, Switzerland, Vanderburgh, Warrick and Washington counties.

Joseph P. Cirone has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area. Additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.

Public Assistance federal funding is available to the state, tribal and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair and replacement of eligible facilities damaged by the severe winter storm in Alcona, Alpena, Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Crawford, Emmet, Kalkaska, Mackinac, Montmorency, Oscoda, Otsego and Presque Isle counties and the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians.
