The Department of Civil Engineering (CE) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in broad area of transportation engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor. The CE Department offers BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering, and a BS degree in Construction Engineering Technology. The Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering (NACOE) offers a PhD degree in engineering with a Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Applied Mechanics option.
Approximately 650 students are enrolled in these programs supported by over 20 full time faculty. Research opportunities within the Department are enhanced by close association with the Subzero Research Laboratory (SRL) that focuses on ice/snow science, the Center for Biofilm Engineering (CBE), the Western Transportation Institute (WTI), the Energy Research Institute (ERI) and the Montana Engineering Education Research Center (MEERC). The Department also provides hands-on experience for students through a variety of community-based projects.

Position overview
Position title: Project Scientist
Salary range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See the following table for the current salary scale for this position: https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2025-26/represented-july-2025-scales/t38-b.pdf. The current full-time base salary for this position is $97,000-$126,700. “Off-Scale” salaries, which yield compensation that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions
Percent time: 100%
Anticipated start: November 1, 2025
Position duration: This is an 18-month appointment with the possibility of an extension depending on performance and continuation of appropriate funding.
