An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred in the morning on Monday, August 25th, 2025, at 7:40 am local time near La Romana, Provincia de La Romana, Dominican Republic, as reported by the United States Geological Survey.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at an intermediate depth of 94.30 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by The Colombian Geological Service (SGC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.6 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) at magnitude 4.7, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 4.5.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ramon Santana (pop. 2,200) located 7 km from the epicenter, La Romana (pop. 208,400) 18 km away, San Pedro de Macoris (pop. 217,900) 22 km away, Santa Cruz de El Seibo (pop. 23,500) 29 km away, Quisqueya (pop. 17,700) 31 km away, Boca Chica (pop. 46,300) 52 km away, Punta Cana (pop. 100,000) 75 km away, Santo Domingo (pop. 2,201,900) 82 km away, Santo Domingo Oeste (pop. 701,300)
