Worldwide earthquakes above magnitude 3 during the past 24 hours on 26 Aug 2025
Summary: 1 quake 6.0+, 2 quakes 5.0+, 36 quakes 4.0+, 112 quakes 3.0+, 307 quakes 2.0+ (458 total)
In the past 24 hours, global seismic activity has been relatively low, with no major or destructive earthquakes. The strongest event was a 6.1 magnitude earthquake east of the Kuril Islands (Russia); this was in fact a rather strong aftershock of the magnitude 8.8 quake a month ago.
Other notable quakes included several moderate tremors in the “Ring of Fire” region, such as a 4.9 magnitude quake near Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia, and a 4.5 magnitude tremor near Nueva Concepción, Guatemala.
An additional, smaller but widely felt quake occurred in Australia: a 3.2 magnitude earthquake near Barndioota, South Australia, which was reported by local residents.
This report is being updated every hour.
