Just 3 minutes ago, a 3.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Menton, Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur, France. The tremor was recorded early evening on Tuesday, July 29th, 2025, at 6:24 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 0. km below the surface.
The event was filed by France’s Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Tende (pop. 2,000) located 5 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include San Remo (pop. 47,000) located 30 km from the epicenter. In Menton (pop. 29,600, 35 km away), Cuneo (pop. 56,000, 37 km away), Imperia (pop. 42,300, 37 km away), Monaco (pop. 33,000, 42 km away), Nice (pop. 342,700, 51 km away), and Saint-Laurent-du-Var (pop. 29,500, 58 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
