Just 14 minutes ago, a 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Retalhuleu, Municipio de Retalhuleu, Departamento de Retalhuleu, Guatemala. The tremor was recorded early morning on Wednesday, October 8th, 2025, at 4:16 am local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 45. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 5.0. A third agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.0.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Champerico (pop. 9,900) located 46 km from the epicenter, Retalhuleu (pop. 90,500) 71 km away, Nuevo San Carlos (pop. 39,600) 77 km away, Chicacao (pop. 60,700) 86 km away, Colomba (pop. 47,500) 90 km away, Coatepeque (pop. 105,400) 90 km away, and Santa Lucia Cotzumalguapa (pop. 112,800) 94 km away.
