At 628 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Goetzville, or 11 miles northwest of Saint Marys River, moving east at 40 mph. HAZARD…Wind gusts up to 40 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE…Radar indicated. IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. At 529 AM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line from near Lake Hassel to over Renville, or along a line from 18 miles southeast of Morris to 18 miles north of Redwood Falls, moving northeast at 55 mph. HAZARD…70 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE…The Granite Falls Airport measured a 75 mph gust at 515 AM. IMPACT…Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings. Surface observations indicate that patchy fog has developed across portions of central NC. Visibilities can be a low as a qaurter mile in some areas. Motorists should be alert for sudden changes in visibility due to the fog. Drive at reduced speeds and use low beam headlights only.
