The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 5.0 quake in Argentina near Mendoza, Departamento de Guaymallén, Mendoza Province, only 19 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the evening on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025, at 8:28 pm local time at a moderately shallow depth of 35. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.5. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.6.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Primero de Mayo (pop. 1000) located 37 km from the epicenter, Mendoza (pop. 114,900) 56 km away, Pocito (pop. 41,000) 81 km away, San Martin (pop. 82,500) 82 km away, Caucete (pop. 33,600) 95 km away, San Juan (pop. 109,100) 98 km away, and Santa Lucia (pop. 43,600) 98 km away.
