An earthquake of magnitude 2.8 occurred only 14 minutes ago 6 km southwest of Chrzanow, Poland, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 1. km beneath the epicenter near Chrzanow, Chrzanów County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Poland, in the afternoon on Tuesday, August 19th, 2025, at 4:15 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Zarki (pop. 3,800) located 1 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Libiaz (pop. 17,800) located 3 km from the epicenter, and Chrzanow (pop. 40,000) 6 km away.
