Just 4 minutes ago, a 2.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Oswiecim, Oświęcim County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Poland. The tremor was recorded early afternoon on Thursday, October 23rd, 2025, at 2:53 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 0. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Chelmek (pop. 9,100) located 4 km from the epicenter, Oswiecim (pop. 39,100) 5 km away, and Libiaz (pop. 17,800) 6 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Chrzanow (pop. 40,000) located 12 km from the epicenter, Jaworzno (pop. 96,500) 15 km away, and Myslowice (pop. 74,600) 17 km away. In Tychy (pop. 130,000, 22 km away), Katowice (pop. 317,300, 27 km away), and Krakow (pop. 755,100, 48 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
