An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred on Tuesday afternoon, October 13th, 2026, at 5:48 pm local time near Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, according to the United States Geological Survey.
According to preliminary data, the quake occurred at a moderately shallow depth of 35. km. Its magnitude and other parameters may still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4. Other agencies reporting the same quake include Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, which reported a magnitude of 4.4, and the citizen-seismograph network RaspberryShake, which also reported a magnitude of 4.4.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Tambolaka (pop. 35,800), located 72 km from the epicenter.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update the magnitude and depth if they change and follow up if other significant news about the quake becomes available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
