A shallow magnitude 4.5 earthquake was reported early afternoon near Sabang, Kota Sabang, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province, Indonesia.
According to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the quake hit on Wednesday, September 24th, 2025, at 2:36 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Sabang (pop. 42,100) located 97 km from the epicenter, and Banda Aceh (pop. 255,000) 108 km away.
