A magnitude 4.6 earthquake near Langsa, Kota Langsa, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province, Indonesia, was reported only 6 minutes ago by Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Indonesia. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter late at night on Monday, October 27th, 2025, at 10:57 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.6 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Langsa (pop. 194,700) located 64 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Blangpidie (pop. 24,100) located 86 km from the epicenter, Pangkalan Brandan (pop. 25,500) 89 km away, and Tanjungtiram (pop. 25,100) 98 km away.
