France’s Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) reported a magnitude 2.8 quake in France near Bourges, Cher, Centre-Val de Loire, only 4 minutes ago. The earthquake hit after midnight on Sunday, November 9th, 2025, at 12:46 am local time at a very shallow depth of 5. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 2.6 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Bruere-Allichamps (pop. 590) located 3 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Orval (pop. 2,000) located 6 km from the epicenter, Saint-Amand-Montrond (pop. 12,000) 7 km away, Chateauneuf-sur-Cher (pop. 1,600) 14 km away, and Dun-sur-Auron (pop. 3,800) 14 km away. In Saint-Florent-sur-Cher (pop. 7,100, 29 km away), Bourges (pop. 68,000, 34 km away), Issoudun (pop. 14,400, 41 km away), and Montlucon (pop.
